CAST

ENG

This exhibition, composed of 9 paintings, one for each month over the course of 9 months, draws a parallel between the 9 months needed to gestate a child and the time I have needed to conceive and develop this project. It is as if the creative process follows its own gestation cycle, reflecting the patience, dedication, and care required to bring this exhibition to life.

I wanted to pay tribute to the cycles where we must open ourselves up and let go, giving space to those elements that cause chaos, confuse us, and transform us. Later, we integrate these new elements, so that they become part of us and allow us to evolve.

Ca n'Oliver, Mahón, Menorca

After a few years of nomadic living, Theresia Malaise felt a sense of belonging hitherto unknown to her in Menorca, a home in which to be a mother and develop an artistic career from the isolation that every island entails.
Her monochrome paintings, inspired by black and white archive photographs, were filled with colour and light when she arrived on the island, to the point of eliminating black from her colour palette.
Her painting remains a reflection on the weight of memory and the past, on the search for identity, but now masses of colours float in space creating a mosaic of overlapping layers, as memory does.

The anthropomorphic references to the past, typical of the legends of the North, have faded away, although a feeling of strangeness still pervades her work, a restlessness characteristic of those who seek to rethink reality.
